Script Director is a deployment and administration tool for Microsoft Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 application developers and system administrators. Use it to:
- See every installed Exchange event script and custom Outlook form in a tree view of mailbox and public folders.
- Edit individual scripts and forms or copy from one folder to another using drag and drop.
- View agent code, properties, and logs with a single mouse click.
- Install a script or form to multiple public folders or mailboxes using the Installation Wizard.
- Catalog all installed scripts and forms across an Exchange organization, including those within individual mailbox folders.
Note: Script Director will not enumerate Exchange 2000 Event Sinks. It will only enumerate installed Outlook forms and Exchange event scripts, whether those scripts are installed on Exchange 5.5 or Exchange 2000. Script Director also will not enumerate custom Outlook Web Access forms on Exchange 5.5 or Exchange 2000.
Explorer-style UI
![]()
You have the flexibility to dimension the workspace as you choose. Use the Favorites menu to bookmark up to ten folders for immediate access. Script Director enumerates the folder tree on demand, which means initial load is significantly faster for large folder hierarchies. Improved icons clearly indicate folders with installed scripts, installed forms, or both. Scripts and routing agents are easier to distinguish, while form icons indicate base message class.
Forms Administration
The folder tree displays registered forms from Organizational and Personal Form Libraries, as well as installed forms in folders throughout the site. Click on a form to view its VB Script code in the script pane (read-only). Double-click to open the form in design mode, then make your changes and re-publish without ever leaving Script Director. A right click will display an expanded form properties dialog, with some useful information that you won't find within the standard Outlook forms development environment.
Form and Script Inventories
In addition to a catalog of script agents, Script Director can create a list of all the forms in your site including where they are published, when they were created, etc. Given the correct log on permissions, Script Director is not limited to public folders or the mailboxes in an individual profile - you can also enumerate installed forms or agents in multiple mailboxes and personal folders (.pst) files, as well as personal and organizational forms libraries. The lists can be exported in comma separated value (.csv) format for analysis in Microsoft Excel.
Simplified Installation and Publishing
Script Director includes a powerful wizard for script agent installation and form publishing. Not only will the wizard guide you through these processes for multiple folders in a just few steps; it can extend your reach to all the mailboxes in your site without leaving your chair or fiddling with your MAPI profile.
- Select a form or script and install to multiple public folders or any combination of mailboxes by selecting individuals and distribution lists from your Global Address List.
- Make a new form the default form for the folders where you publish it.
- Set the default permission for the target folders in the same process (when run from an NT 4, Windows 2000 or XP workstation).
- Run the wizard in Delete mode to automatically remove a form or agent from a list of public folders or mailboxes.
Drag and Drop Publishing
Once a form is fully tested, you can publish it in the Organizational Forms Library or a production folder by simply dragging it from a Personal Form Library or test folder. Scripts can be installed the same way. Script Director logs each publishing action whether it is done through drag or drop or via the wizard.
Script and Log Editing
You can now edit the log as well as the event script directly in the right-hand pane. Double-click an installed script and Script Director loads it into the script editor of your choice - take a step up from Visual Notepad.
